As at 1st January 2018 the cattle population in farms of all types (in agricultural organisations, individual farm holdings, household plots) numbered 4.4 million heads, or 101.5% compared with the same date of the previous year, of which cows being 1.5 million heads (99.9%). The number of pigs was 3.2 million heads (100.3%), the number of poultry was 50.7 million heads (102.5%).

The sales of livestock and poultry for slaughter (in live weight) in farms of all types in 2017 were recorded at 1 676.5 thous. tonnes (99.9% compared to 2016). Sales of poultry rose by 5.6%, sales of pigs rose by 2%. The structure of slaughterings was as follows: 31.2% cattle (in 2016 – 33.9%), 29.6% pigs (29%) and 38.9% poultry (36.8%).
The milk production was at 7 321.9 thous. tonnes, an increase of 2.5% compared with 2016.
