Current environmental expenditure in the Republic of Belarus in 2016

In 2016 current environmental protection expenditure of organizations were BYN 832.1 million, or 97.1% at constant prices compared with 2015.

The structure of environmental protection expenditure shows that the biggest share is spent on the protection and rational use of water resources, which is 64% (BYN 532.2 million), spending on industrial waste pollution prevention accounted for 18.6% (BYN 154.6 million), and on air protection and preservation of the ozone layer and climate 13.9% (BYN 116 million).

The main volume of the total current environmental expenditure falls on the manufacturing sector (51.7%), water supply, waste management and remediation activities sector (21.8%) and electricity, gas, steam, hot water and conditioning supply sector (18.5%).

In 2016 the biggest amounts of funds on environmental measures were spent by organizations of Gomel region (BYN 189.4 million, or 22.8% of the total current environmental expenditure in the country), Vitebsk region (BYN 132 million, or 15.9%) and the city of Minsk (BYN 119.6 million, or 14.4%).
