А.1. Emissions of pollutants into the atmospheric air

Indicator:

A1 – Emissions of pollutants into the atmospheric air

download the file in Excel format for 1990–2017

Brief description:

Emissions of pollutants into the atmospheric air in total, from stationary sources, and from mobile sources;
Emissions of pollutants into the atmospheric air by selected ingredients (sulphur dioxide (SO2), nitrogen oxides (NO2), hydrocarbons including non-methane volatile organic compounds, carbon monoxide (CO), total suspended particulates); emissions of pollutants into the atmospheric air from stationary sources by selected ingredients (ammonia (NH3), methane (CH4), lead (Pb), cadmium (Cd), mercury (Hg));
Emissions of pollutants into the atmospheric air by economic activity;
The indicators are also presented per capita, per unit area as well as per unit of GDP.

Emissions of pollutants into the atmospheric air in the Republic of Belarus

(thousand tonnes)

Methodology:

The total emissions of pollutants into the atmospheric air comprise emissions from mobile and stationary sources;

Mobile sources of emission are transport vehicles and self-propelled machines equipped with engines, the operation of which results in air polluting emissions; emissions of pollutants into the atmospheric air from mobile sources are estimated in accordance with the Instruction on the procedure of recording of air polluting emissions from mobile sources, based on the amount of consumed fuels and data on the distribution of motorised vehicle fleet in use in the territory of the Republic of Belarus;

Stationary sources of emission are sources of emission, the displacement of which is impossible without incommensurable detriment to their function; emissions of pollutants into the atmospheric air from stationary sources are estimated from the data of the state statistical report 1-air (Ministry of Environment) «Report on emissions of polluting substances and carbon dioxide into the atmospheric air from stationary sources» submitted by legal entities (except small business entities) operating objects of impact on the atmospheric air having stationary sources of emissions with the amount of pollutants allowed to be released into the atmosphere determined by the local authorities of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection of the Republic of Belarus in the permit for pollutant emissions in the atmospheric air or integrated environmental permit in the reporting year (except pollutants of hazard category 1) is 25 tonnes or more per year and/or of pollutants of hazard class 1 is 1 kg or more per year;

the official statistical information on emissions of pollutants into the atmospheric air from stationary sources is classified by economic activity:

- for 2010-2015: the National classification of the Republic of Belarus «Kinds of Economic Activity» ОКРБ 005-2006 (compliant with NACE Rev.1.1) was used;

- starting from 2016: the National classification of the Republic of Belarus «Kinds of Economic Activity» ОКРБ 005-2011 (compliant with NACE Rev.2.0) is used.

Data source:

Emissions of pollutants into the atmospheric air from stationary sources: state statistical report 1-air (Ministry of Environment) «Report on emissions of polluting substances and carbon dioxide into the atmospheric air from stationary sources»; the data producer for 1990-2014 is the National Statistical Committee of the Republic of Belarus; starting from 2015 the data producer is the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection of the Republic of Belarus;

Emissions of pollutants into the atmospheric air from mobile sources: administrative data; the data producer is the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection of the Republic of Belarus.

Relevance of the indicator:

The indicator provides a measure of existing and expected pressure on the environment in terms of emissions of harmful substances into the atmospheric air.
