As part of the regional programme "Statistics through the Eastern Partnership" (STEP), an inception mission started its work in Belstat on April 15, 2019. The team of experts on mission consists of Jean Paul Blandinieres, Team Leader of STEP; Thierry Coulet, Key expert on macro‐economic statistics; Gereltuya Altankhuyag, Key expert on social statistics; and Angela Guznac, STEP project manager. The mission’s objective is to inform about the regional programme and discuss which kind of technical assistance the project could provide to the national statistical system of Belarus.
The priority areas of STEP are macroeconomic statistics, the Sustainable Development Goal indicators, gender and social statistics, business, agriculture, energy and transport statistics. It is planned that other areas of technical assistance will be identified during the inception phase.
The STEP programme will be implemented in the six EaP countries – Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine.
Representatives of the National Bank, the Ministry of Finance and other government bodies authorized to produce state statistics will also take part in consultations with the STEP experts.
The STEP mission will finish its work on April 18, 2019.
