The Third Expert Meeting on statistics for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Workshop on statistics for SDGs organized by the UNECE for the EECCA and SEE countries were held on April 15 – 18, 2019 in Geneva, Switzerland. Deputy Chairperson of the National Statistical Committee of the Republic of Belarus, Head of the Interagency Working Group on Monitoring and Evaluation of Progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals of the Council for Sustainable Development Elena Kukharevich took part in the meetings.
The participants of the meeting discussed the implementation of the Roadmap on Statistics for the Sustainable Development Goals of the Conference of European Statisticians, paying considerable attention to the coordination of data flows on global SDG statistics, data dissemination and capacity building. Within the session "Efficient dissemination of SDG statistics", E. Kukharevich shared the experience of the Republic of Belarus in creating the National Reporting Platform for SDG indicators.
The workshop on statistics for Sustainable Development Goals identified priority areas of statistical capacity development in the EECCA and SEE region, with a focus on data disaggregation and use of geographic information systems. Deputy Chairperson of Belstat E. Kukharevich presented the experience of the Republic of Belarus in organizing ad-hoc surveys of vulnerable groups of the population to implement the main principle of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development – leave no one behind.
E. Kukharevich also held a number of meetings with representatives of the UN agencies on the issues of expanding the project cooperation aimed at strengthening the national statistical capacity for monitoring the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals.
