The first data of the 2019 Population Census of the Republic of Belarus were presented on February 20, 2020 in the National Press Centre of the Republic of Belarus. Chairperson of the National Statistical Committee of the Republic of Belarus Inna Medvedeva, Deputy Chairperson of the National Statistical Committee of the Republic of Belarus Zhanna Vasilevskaya, Head of Demographic Statistics and Population Census Department Tatiana Babuk and Press Secretary Tatiana Lapkovskaya took part in the press conference.
According to the data received, 95% of the population took part in the census, of them 22% took part via the Internet, 28% at the stationary/mobile census stations, and 48% at home. Due to religious or social convictions, 2% of the population refused to participate in the census (under international standards, up to 10% is allowed).
In accordance with international standards, personal data on persons who did not provide access to residential premises as well as persons who refused to participate in the census, were collected on the basis of information obtained from administrative sources. Persons not residing in the Republic of Belarus for more than a year were not enumerated.
