On September 6, 2019 Chairperson of the National Statistical Committee of the Republic of Belarus Inna Medvedeva met with Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in the Republic of Belarus Alexandra Solovieva in Belstat. Deputy Chairperson of Belstat Elena Kukharevich and Sustainable Development Goals Adviser of the UNDP/UNICEF/UNFPA project "Support for the functioning of the National Institutional Mechanism for achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals of the Republic of Belarus" Natalia Minchenko also took part the meeting.
The parties discussed a wide range of topics of mutual interest. Special attention was paid to the issues of cooperation between Belstat and UNDP for the next 5 years.
The participants of the meeting noted high effectiveness of the jointly implemented projects and initiatives on strengthening national statistical capacity, increasing the accessibility of official statistical information, including the improvement of the system of monitoring and reporting on the Sustainable Development Goals of the Republic of Belarus.
The regionalization and digitalization of the National Reporting Platform for SDGs, further nationalization of the SDG indicators, studying and using the international experience on GIS technologies for strengthening national statistical capacity were identified as the prospective areas of cooperation.
The Chairperson of the National Statistical Committee of the Republic of Belarus Inna Medvedeva supported the initiative of the UNDP Resident Representative in Belarus Alexandra Solovieva to organize, on an annual basis, the dialogue with all government bodies and other stakeholders on monitoring progress towards the SDGs and expanding the functionalities of the National Reporting Platform.
At the end of the meeting, the parties also expressed their willingness to consider other promising areas of cooperation in order to include them in the next five-year cooperation program of Belstat and UNDP.
