Chairperson of the National Statistical Committee of the Republic of Belarus Inna Medvedeva, Head of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Office in the Republic of Belarus Olga Atroshchenko, Head of the Demographic Statistics and Population Census Department of the National Statistical Committee of the Republic of Belarus Irina Bichan, and Head of the International Cooperation and Statistics Dissemination Department of the National Statistical Committee of the Republic of Belarus Elena Kondratenko took part in the press conference.

The National Statistical Committee of the Republic of Belarus has finalised the development of new information systems, ‘Geostatistics’ and ‘Regional Sustainable Development Data Platform’.

‘Belstat presents two new information resources – “Geostatistics” and “Regional Sustainable Development Data Platform”. Both portals were prepared with the support of the United Nations Population Fund in Belarus under the international technical assistance project "Strengthening the capacity of the national statistical system of Belarus to collect, analyse and disseminate demographic data for the Sustainable Development Goals of the country". The creation of the portals is a completely new approach to data presentation. In particular, “Geostatistics” is a completely innovative product for Belstat as it visualises spatial data,’ said Inna Medvedeva.

The ‘Geostatistics’ information and analytical system is a system of interactive graphical visualisation of official statistics across various statistical domains, including business demographics and 2019 population census data. The data visualisation provides different levels of data disaggregation while respecting confidentiality. Users are provided with the opportunity to obtain information about a country’s territory of interest taking into account its socio-economic and demographic characteristics.

According to the Belstat Chairperson, the platform of regional data for the Sustainable Development Goals is the only portal of its kind to provide regional data. This product has no analogues in the world so far. The platform provides an opportunity to visualise the development indicators of the country's regions in different breakdowns, to make interregional comparisons and is an efficient tool for monitoring and assessing the progress made by the regions towards the SDGs.

‘The two new portals provide an opportunity to draw conclusions about the development of the regions of Belarus. This is an outstanding analytical tool for decision-taking in the social sector and business development. We believe that it will be a good help for the Government of the Republic of Belarus, local authorities and businessmen in making decisions on the development of specific regions and localities of the country,’ emphasised the head of Belstat.

‘Our information resources are aimed at improving the lives of people living in the regions,’ Inna Medvedeva summarised.
