43rd session of the UN Statistical Commission was held from 28 February to 2 March

The 43rd session of the United Nations Statistical Commission was held from 28 February to 2 March 2012 in New York, United States. Representatives of the National Statistical Committee of the Republic of Belarus took part in the meeting.   

The Commission reviewed the 2010 World Programme on Population and Housing Censuses and summarized practical results of censuses held all over the world.

 

The Commission also discussed recommendations for the national and international implementation programmes for an updated national accounts standard (2008 SNA), issues of the System of Environmental-Economic Accounting, agriculture, energy, and information and communication technology statistics.

 

The Commission reviewed and endorsed a generic national quality assurance framework. 

 

Special focus was made on the concrete steps taken to strengthen a constructive engagement with Member States and the global statistical community with respect to the measurement of human development and to support greater transparency in the production of Human Development Reports.

 

Items for information included the issues of gender statistics, statistics of international trade in goods and services, International Comparison Programme of the 2011 round, international economic and social classifications. Among organizational issues the coordination of statistical activities in the United Nations was reviewed – areas where coordination needs to be enhanced were prioritized and appropriate mechanisms to do so were suggested.
