60th plenary session of the Conference of European Statisticians was held on 6 - 8 June

The 60th plenary session of the Conference of European Statisticians (CES) was held on 6–8 June 2012 in Paris, France. The meeting gathered Heads of the National Statistical Offices of the United Nations member countries and international organisations engaged in statistical activities. Vladimir Zinovsky, Chairman of the National Statistical Committee of the Republic of Belarus, took part in the plenary session.  

The 60th plenary session of CES covered the issues that are currently on the agenda of the national statistical services and international statistical organisations, and formulated recommendations for strategic activity directions of the statistical community.

 

The Conference discussed the results of the population and housing censuses of the 2010 round, lessons learned and innovations used; challenges and tasks for future censuses were formulated taking into account up-to-date requirements for reducing costs, obtaining high-quality data and observing confidentiality of personal data.

 

Special focus was made on the implementation by national statistical offices of the United Nations Fundamental Principles of Official Statistics: the Conference identified problematic issues of their efficient application and elaborated proposals for overcoming barriers on the way towards their implementation in national statistical practices.

 

Following the session results, the Conference agreed on the closer coordination of the activities of national statistical offices in the field of official statistics.
