Chairperson of the National Statistical Committee of the Republic of Belarus Inna Medvedeva took part in the 67th plenary session of the Conference of European Statisticians that was held in Paris, France.
The Conference reviewed the results of statistical work in the UNECE region for 2018 in such areas as statistics for the Sustainable Development Goals, the use of space technology and geospatial systems in official statistics, statistics and data on cities, management of data information systems, and new approaches in gender statistics. In addition, the participants discussed the use of new data sources, in particular Big Data, in statistical practice as well as their integration with traditional data sources.
Chairperson of Belstat Inna Medvedeva also met with Director of the UNECE Statistical Division Lidia Bratanova, Chief Statistician of the UNIDO Shyam Upadhyaya, Deputy Director of the Department of Statistics of the Eurasian Economic Commission Peter Dolgopolov, heads of national statistical offices of the CIS member states to discuss the issues of further cooperation.
The annual plenary sessions of the Conference of European Statisticians are convened for the heads of national statistical institutes and international organizations and are the platform for coordination of statistical activities in the UNECE region and for identifying priority areas for statistical development.
