The National Statistical Committee of the Republic of Belarus hosted the Third International Workshop on Operationalizing the Integrated Geospatial Information Framework organized by the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe jointly with the United Nations Statistics Division and the European Free Trade Association, with the support of the United Nations Development Programme.
The workshop was attended by representatives of the national statistical offices and cadastral agencies of Eastern Europe, Caucasus and Central Asia (EECCA) countries, public and international organisations. The workshop aimed at strengthening nationally integrated geospatial information management towards the national development priorities and the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development adopted by the United Nations member states.
As Chairperson of Belstat Inna Medvedeva and UNDP Resident Representative in the Republic of Belarus Alexandra Solovieva noted in their speeches, the importance of the workshop is to identify the prospects of integrating geospatial information and statistical data to support countries in achieving sustainable development.
International experts from the United Nations Global Geospatial Information Management and the International Cartographic Association presented the Integrated Geospatial Information Framework, a tool for improving and strengthening national geospatial information management capacity, and spoke about the integrative role of geospatial information.
During the session on strengthening national geospatial information management capacities, Elena Kukharevich, Deputy Chairperson of Belstat, presented the national experience in integrating statistical and geospatial information for monitoring progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals.
