The 16th meeting of the Inter-agency and Expert Group on Sustainable Development Goal Indicators is being held in Kitakyushu (Japan).

The National Statistical Committee of the Republic of Belarus at the event is represented by the Deputy Chairperson Aleksei Yarkovets.
Global issues related to the effective implementation of Agenda 2030 have been discussed: from monitoring and reporting on SDGs at different levels to using artificial intelligence and data innovation to accelerate the achievement of SDGs, as well as strengthening partnerships in this area. Special attention is given to data for climate and environmental actions.
In the course of thematic discussions, Aleksei Yarkovets shared key achievements and strategic approaches of the Republic of Belarus in the field of SDG monitoring. He stressed that the systematic work of Belstat and the republican state administration allowed to achieve impressive results in ensuring information openness. “Data availability is 95%, and for 9 of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals it is 100%.”
Presenting the experience of localizing the Sustainable Development Goals, Belstat emphasized the unique regional approach developed in the Republic of Belarus.
“The National Statistical Committee of the Republic of Belarus has formed a regional list of SDG indicators, reflecting national priorities and supplemented by indicators taking into account the specifics of the development of the particular region. It includes 138 indicators,” - explained Aleksei Yarkovets.
He noted that the regional list was not only harmonized with the national one. The indicators of the regional list make it possible to disaggregate them, for the most part, not only in 7 regions but also in all 118 regions of the country.
Belstat’s participation underlines Belarus’ commitment to global goals and the country’s active role in international dialogue on sustainable development.
