Belstat’s approaches to the estimation of alcohol per capita consumption, including unrecorded alcohol, recognized by the WHO as best practice

At the meeting on preparation of the EU/WHO status report on alcohol consumption and technical consultations on the European Information System on Alcohol and Health organized by the WHO European Office for the Prevention and Control of Non-communicable Diseases, Deputy Chairperson of the National Statistical Committee of the Republic of Belarus Elena Kukharevich presented the experience of the Republic of Belarus in developing methodological approaches to the estimation of unrecorded alcohol consumption.

During the preparation of the WHO Global Status Report on Alcohol and for publication in 2018, Belstat presented its reasoned position on estimating the level of alcohol per capita consumption, including unrecorded alcohol consumption. Belstat's approaches to estimating the per capita consumption of alcohol, including unrecorded, have been recognized by the World Health Organization as advanced and recommended for use by other countries in their practices. The data of official statistics have been accepted by the WHO for publication.
