Chairperson of Belstat met with representatives of the UN Resident Coordinator Office

On 14 June 2024, the UN Resident Coordinator in Belarus Rasul Baghirov and Head of the UN Resident Coordinator’s Office in Belarus Samuel Shin paid a working visit to the National Statistical Committee of the Republic of Belarus.

The parties discussed the issues of cooperation between the United Nations and the National Statistical Committee of the Republic of Belarus, as well as the development of the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework for 2026-2030.

During the meeting, Inna Medvedeva, Chairperson of the National Statistical Committee of the Republic of Belarus, noted that the Republic of Belarus had become one of the 193 countries that had committed themselves to ensuring sustainable and progressive economic growth, social integration and environmental protection in partnership and in peace, and had already taken a number of important steps to implement the 2030 Agenda at the national level.

Inna Medvedeva spoke about the functioning of the National Reporting Platform for SDG indicators which facilitates effective interaction with data providers, custodian agencies as well as dissemination of data on SDG indicators. The head of the agency emphasized that the data availability in the country is more than 90%, which is a high level.

"Sustainable development of the country is inextricably linked to the sustainable development of its regions. Therefore, one of the directions of the initiative to implement the SDGs is their regional localization. In this regard, Belstat has launched an innovative product that has no analogues in the world so far – the Platform of Regional Data on Sustainable Development," Inna Medvedeva added.

Based on the meeting results, the parties agreed to cooperate at all levels to implement UN/UNDP initiatives, and UN Resident Coordinator in Belarus Rasul Baghirov expressed his readiness to work more closely with Belstat.
