Chairperson of the National Statistical Committee participated in the 48th session of the UN Statistical Commission

The Chairperson of the National Statistical Committee of the Republic of Belarus Medvedeva Inna participated in the 48th session of the UN Statistical Commission, that was held from 7 to 10 March 2017 in New York (USA).

Starting from January 1, 2017, the Republic of Belarus is a member of the UN Statistical Commission (elected for a period of 4 years at the meeting of the UN Economic and Social Council).

During the 48th session more than 30 topics were discussed, of which relevant for the Republic of Belarus questions:

  • clarification and revision of indicator framework for the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development;
  • preparation of regional action plans that complement the global action plan for data on sustainable development;
  • assessment of the quality assurance tools of the national statistical system;
  • improvement of the collection, preparation and dissemination of social statistics, national accounts statistics, environmental-economic accounting, tourism.

During the session the heads of the national statistical offices of the member states of the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) met with the Member of the Board of the Eurasian Economic Commission (Minister) on Integration and Macroeconomics Valovaya Tatyana to discuss issues related to monitoring the achievement of the sustainable development goals in the EEU region, production of indicators of digital economy (including e-commerce statistics), the implementation of the System of National Accounts 2008, the conduction of the population censuses of the 2020 round, and the use of international classifications in statistical activities.
