High-Level Seminar "Next Step in Statistical Cooperation" for Eastern Europe, Caucasus and Central Asia (EECCA) countries organized by Eurostat – the Statistical Office of the European Union, was held on September 24 - 26, 2019 in Chisinau, Moldova. First Deputy Chairperson of the National Statistical Committee of the Republic of Belarus Irina Kangro took part in it.
The participants of the High-Level Seminar reported the most important developments in the national statistical systems – changes in statistical legislation and methodology, results of global assessments and prospects of cooperation with international experts in the framework of technical assistance.
The parties shred their experiences in organizing population censuses of the 2020 round, improving the quality of statistical data by using new technologies, improving dissemination and communication strategies, and discussed the areas of implementation of the regional statistical cooperation programme “Statistics Through Eastern Partnership” (STEP).
The experience of Belarus in implementing and using new technologies and alternative data sources in statistical production in the context of digitalization of the economy was presented to the participants of the High Level Seminar during the session "Quality statistics – use of new technologies and Big Data".
International experts presented to the representatives of the EECCA countries the main directions of statistical cooperation, overview of donors' coordination, experience of using Big Data and non-traditional data sources in the production of official statistics.
Eurostat annually gathers senior managers of the National Statistical Institutes of the EECCA countries to discuss the most topical issues of development of national statistical systems.
