The Republic of Belarus is represented at the event by Mr. Timofei Zhigarev, First Deputy Chairperson of the National Statistical Committee of the Republic of Belarus, and Ms. Svetlana Cherkas, Deputy Head of the Industrial Production Indices Division of the Enterprise Statistics Department.
During the meeting the representatives of national statistical services of CIS countries discuss key directions of digital transformation of official statistics: application of modern information technologies and artificial intelligence in statistical production, generation and dissemination of open data, development and use of metadata on the basis of international standards, integration of information resources with the use of metadata, as well as national approaches to the creation of catalogs of statistical indicators and application of metadata in statistical production management.
The Belarusian side presented the national experience of application of artificial intelligence technologies in official statistics, including the introduction of virtual assistant – chat-bot, realized on the basis of natural language processing (NLP) and machine learning technologies.
Timofei Zhigarev, speaking at the thematic session, emphasized that artificial intelligence is considered in Belstat not as a fashionable trend, but as an effective tool to improve the quality of statistical services. "The implemented virtual assistant is already demonstrating its effectiveness in automating respondents' consultations and improving the availability of statistical information. Thanks to it respondents get instant answers to typical questions at any time, and specialists can focus on solving more complex queries".
Summarizing the results of the participation of the Belarusian delegation in the meeting, Timofei Zhigarev noted that digitalization of official statistics is an integral part of the sustainable development of national statistical systems, and the exchange of experience between the CIS countries contributes to the development of effective solutions and implementation of modern technologies in practice.
"Participation in such events allows not only to present our own developments, but also to adopt valuable ideas that can be adapted to the Belarusian statistical system. Modern statistics is, first of all, flexible, technological and open, and it is in this direction that Belstat intends to develop further," summarized the First Deputy Chairperson of Belstat.
