The Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey (MICS) of household to study the situation of children and women will be conducted in Belarus from March to June 2019. The project partners are the National Statistical Committee of the Republic of Belarus, the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), the World Bank and the European Union.
Belarus took part in the third (in 2005) and fourth (in 2012) rounds of the MICS. In 2017 our country joined the sixth round. The survey programme and tools were developed by UNICEF.
On February 4 – 26, 2019, the National Statistical Committee of the Republic of Belarus organized a training seminar for the MICS staff at the Belarusian State Economic University. During the seminar, on February 14, 2019, the future interviewers met with the management of Belstat and international partner organizations. It was attended by Chairperson of Belstat Inna Medvedeva, Deputy Chairperson of Belstat Elena Kukharevich, Representative of the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) in Belarus Dr. Rashed Mustafa Sarwar, World Bank Country manager for Belarus Alex Kremer, and Head of Cooperation of the European Union Delegation to Belarus Berend de Groot.
As noted by the participants of the meeting, the main objective of MICS6 in our country is to obtain objective information about the situation of children and women. Within the framework of the household survey, indicators in the area of maternal and child health, child development, child rearing and education, women's reproductive behavior, attitudes of women and men towards domestic violence and other issues relevant to the country will be examined. The value of the information to be collected during MICS6 lies in the fact that it will allow for the analysis of the indicators characterizing the situation of children and women in recent years since the previous MICS rounds.
