On 22-27 October a team of international experts conducted an assessment of the national statistical system of Belarus

From 22 to 27 October 2013 a team of international experts was working in the National Statistical Committee of the Republic of Belarus to carry out the Adapted Global Assessment (AGA) of the national statistical system of Belarus.

The purpose of the assessment was to define the compliance of the statistical system of Belarus with the international and European standards and regulations in the field of statistics and to develop recommendations for its further development.

The mission was organised by the Statistical Office of the European Union (Eurostat), the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE), and the European Free Trade Association (EFTA).

The mission comprised five experts who were representatives of Eurostat, the UNECE Statistical Division, the UK Statistics Authority, Statistics Norway and Statistics Lithuania.

The AGA team reviewed the processes of organising and conducting state statistical surveys in Belarus, as well as planning of state statistical activities and data dissemination.

The state statistics bodies provided comprehensive information about all stages of statistical production for all statistical domains.

Direct meetings with respondents and various user groups, such as national and local government authorities, research community, international organisations, mass media, etc., were arranged for the AGA experts.

Based on the mission results, a report on the operation of the statistical system of Belarus will be prepared. The report will be made available on the website of Belstat, as well as on the websites of Eurostat, UNECE and EFTA.
