Head of the National Statistical Committee of the Republic of Belarus Inna Medvedeva takes part in the meeting of heads and specialists of national statistical services of the CIS countries «Labour Statistics Development Considering Decisions of the 21st International Conference of Labour Statisticians» (hereinafter - Meeting). The event takes place from 29 to 31 May 2024 in Dushanbe (Republic of Tajikistan).
In the course of the Meeting, a working meeting was held between the Chairperson of Belstat and the Chief Statistician, Director of the Department of Statistics of the International Labor Organization (ILO).
Inna Medvedeva and Rafael Diez de Medina discussed the topical for the Republic of Belarus issues of interaction between the ILO Department of Statistics and Belstat, as well as the prospects for further cooperation.
Within the framework of the Meeting the 69th meeting of the Council of the Heads of Statistical Services of the CIS member states (hereinafter - the Council) was held.
Heads of the Statistical Services of the CIS member states discussed topical issues of further development of national statistical systems of the region.
The Council was informed of the progress in the implementation of the project «Development of statistics of the Commonwealth of Independent States», aimed at ensuring the comparability of statistical methodology in the CIS region, the creation of a unified information base, introduction of modern information technology.
At the meeting of the Council discussion of the results of the Global International Comparisons Program (ICP) on the basis of purchasing power parity of currencies for the 2021 round and the implementation progress of Global ICP 2024 took place, as well as the most relevant topics for further coordinated development of national statistical systems of the CIS region were considered. The Council decided to continue the work on international comparisons based on purchasing power parity of currencies in the CIS region in the framework of the Global ICP round 2024.
In modern conditions the development of professional competences in statistics becomes an important direction for all statistical systems of the region. This is due to the emergence of new data sources and rapid development of information and communication technologies. The parties discussed the concrete steps that could be taken in order to improve the professional competences in statistics. In turn, Inna Medvedeva emphasized the importance of the statistical literacy and statistical education development in terms of additional professional education (advanced training) in the form of training seminars, forums, online courses, webinars for specialists of state statistical offices.
The Council meeting summarized the results of the 2nd International Student Olympiad - Festival on Statistics and the international statistical quiz “Commonwealth in Figures” held in May 2024. In the opinion of the parties, such events contribute to the increase of interest in the activity of national statistical offices and to the formation of their positive image, to the expansion of knowledge about the CIS region, to the strengthening of professional statistical community, to the development of statistical literacy of the population.
