On July 10, 2020 Chairperson of the National Statistical Committee of the Republic of Belarus Inna Medvedeva met with Representative of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in the Republic of Belarus Rashed Mustafa Sarwar on the occasion of the end of his mission in this position. Inna Medvedeva expressed her gratitude to Dr. Sarwar for his significant personal contribution to strengthening the partnership between Belstat and UNICEF, supporting the development of national statistical capacity to monitor the situation of children, women, persons with disabilities and the progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In particular, thanks to the implementation of a joint international technical assistance project with UNICEF, Belarus has carried out a comprehensive survey on the situation of persons with disabilities, the sixth round of the multiple indicator cluster survey of the situation of children and women (MICS 6), launched a universal web portal on child-related statistics, and developed the national reporting platform for SDG indicators. All this allowed for the collection of unique data on various aspects of the lives of vulnerable population groups that were impossible to obtain neither through regular statistical surveys nor from administrative sources, and the provision of access to information to a wide range of national and international users.
In his turn, Rashed Mustafa Sarwar noted the high professionalism of Belstat specialists, their commitment to implementation of the best international practices and obtaining quality data, and expressed his confidence that Belstat will continue effective cooperation with UNICEF aimed at monitoring the situation of children, women and persons with disabilities.
Inna Medvedeva wished Dr. Sarwar success in implementing global UNICEF initiatives in his new position and presented him with a Certificate of Commendation from the Chairperson of the National Statistical Committee of the Republic of Belarus as well as a commemorative gift dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the state statistics bodies.
