The first mission of the regular Global Assessment of the National Statistical System of the Republic of Belarus began its work in the National Statistical Committee of the Republic of Belarus on June 17, 2019. The assessment was organized by Eurostat – the Statistical Office of the European Union. The Assessment Team includes experts from Eurostat (Jolanta Szczerbińska), the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (Steven Vale), the European Free Trade Association (Lars Svenneby and Marius Andersen), and independent experts (Jerry O'Hanlon and Priit Potisepp).
The Global Assessment program foresees an in-depth review of statistical legislation, compliance with the Fundamental Principles of Official Statistics and the European Statistics Code of Practice, the structure and organization of the National Statistical System, implementation of the quality management system, human, financial and IT resources, production processes, dissemination of statistics, communication with key users, personnel development, business statistics, agriculture statistics, macroeconomic statistics, social and demographic statistics, multi-domain statistics, and international cooperation
The international experts will also meet with other producers of official statistics, users of official statistical information, representatives of scientific and academic community, mass media, and international organizations in Belarus.
Based on the Global Assessment results, the Assessment Team will prepare a detailed report and provide recommendations on the priority areas of further development of the national statistical system of the Republic of Belarus.
The previous Adapted Global Assessment of the National Statistical System of the Republic of Belarus was conducted on October 22 – 27, 2012 and March 20 – 22, 2013.
The mission will finish its work on June 21, 2019.
