Within the framework of the regional project "Improvement of industrial statistics and development of indicators of industrial performance for policy analysis in CIS countries" implemented by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), an expert of the UNIDO Statistics Division, Valentin Todorov, conducted training for Belstat specialists on working with the statistical software "R" in the National Statistical Committee of the Republic of Belarus on May 16 – 18, 2018.
The main advantages of the R software are its multifunctionality and user friendliness, which makes it the standard in the field of description of automated processes of processing of primary statistical data, their aggregation and calculation of integral statistical indicators, statistical analyses and getting output data in the form of electronic tables and graphs.
At present the R software is widely used by foreign national statistical offices and international organisations.
During the three-day training the expert introduced the Belstat staff to the basics of R, types of data, expressions and functions, as well as to the individual packages for official statistics. The theoretical aspects were reinforced with practical exercises and examples.
The obtained skills will enable the staff to implement the R software product in statistical practice of the Republic of Belarus.
