Zhanna Vasilevskaya participates in the Census Week

On 19 September 2022 the Census Week – the Workshop and the Meeting of the Group of Experts on Population and Housing Censuses organised by the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) started in Geneva, Switzerland.

During the Workshop Zhanna Vasilevskaya, Deputy Chairperson of the National Statistical Committee representing the Republic of Belarus at the events, shared with the participants the experience of preparing and conducting the 2019 Population Census of the Republic of Belarus in digital format, dissemination of its results, as well as the prospects of using the census results in developing the Geostatistical Portal information system.

For reference. The 2019 Population Census is the third census since the Republic of Belarus became independent. It has become the most innovative of all previous censuses. Its distinctive feature is the abandonment of paper and the use of modern information technologies at the stages of data collection and processing and dissemination of the census results.

The Republic of Belarus was the first country in the Commonwealth of Independent States region to conduct digital census using the Internet.

The results of the 2009 and 2019 censuses are available in the information and analytical system "Population Censuses data of the Republic of Belarus" (https://census.belstat.gov.by/).

The presentation of Belarus was of great interest to the international expert community.
