Prospects for expanding cooperation with UNFPA discussed during the meeting of the Head of Belstat with the new UNFPA Country Director for Belarus

Chairperson of the National Statistical Committee of the Republic of Belarus Inna Medvedeva met with new Country Director of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) for Belarus Jaime Nadal in Belstat on October 1, 2019 as part of his first visit to the country. The meeting was attended by Deputy Chairperson of Belstat Zhanna Vasilevskaya as well as UNFPA Deputy Representative in the Republic of Belarus Olga Atroshchenko and UNFPA Gender Equality Program Coordinator Olga Lukashkova.
The sides focused on discussing the prospects of cooperation between Belstat and UNFPA.
Chairperson of Belstat Inna Medvedeva expressed her interest in implementing joint projects in such important for Belstat areas as presentation of the results of the 2019 census, research on violence against women, adaptation and promotion of the Sustainable Development Goal indicators on gender equality.
Another promising area of interaction between Belstat and UNFPA is the development of the National Reporting Platform for SDG indicators. The Head of Belstat informed the UNFPA representatives about the work carried out by the Belarusian side to localize the national list of SDG indicators and to develop the SDG methodology.
According to the participants of the meeting, UNFPA assistance in expanding the use of administrative registers and records can become an important direction of cooperation in the near future.
The parties noted the significant potential of cooperation and expressed readiness to expand interaction in order to implement it more fully.
