44th session of the UN Statistical Commission was held on 26 February - 1 March

The 44th session of the United Nations Statistical Commission was held from 26 February to 1 March in New York, the United States. Elena Kukharevich, Deputy Chairperson of the National Statistical Committee of the Republic of Belarus, took part in the session.

Among a large number of issues, the Commission reviewed and discussed national gender statistics programmes, development of statistical-spatial framework in national statistical systems, basic principles and ways of improvement of environment statistics, health statistics, crime statistics, etc.    

 

A special focus was made on the implementation of the Fundamental Principles of Official Statistics.

 

The issues of coordination of international statistical programmes were reviewed.

 

Progress in revision of the Framework for the Development of Environment Statistics was discussed.

 

Items for information included the issues of statistical capacity building, gender statistics, demographic statistics, health statistics, employment statistics, services statistics, international trade statistics, price statistics.

 

During the session working meetings with the Head of the Federal State Statistics Service of Russia, the Chairman of the Interstate Statistical Committee of the Commonwealth of Independent States, the Director General of the National Bureau of Statistics of the Republic of Moldova, the delegation of the National Institute of Statistics and Geography of Mexico, as well as the representatives of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) were held with a view of discussing prospects and enhancing of cooperation in the field of statistics.
