About participation in the 66th plenary session of the Conference of European Statisticians

The 66th plenary session of the Conference of European Statisticians (CES) was held from 18 to 20 June 2018 in Geneva, Switzerland. Deputy Chairperson of the National Statistical Committee of the Republic of Belarus Zhanna Vasilevskaya took part in its work.

The Conference addressed the topics of relevance for the Republic of Belarus, including the expansion of the scope of official statistics, modernization of statistical production, statistical data presentation practices, forming partnerships between statistical offices and respondents and users as well as approaches to improve cooperation with the United Nations Global Geospatial Information Management Initiative. A separate session discussed the compilation of statistical indicators measuring progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals at the regional and global levels.

During the session, a number of fundamental documents were adopted, in particular on the use of registers and administrative data for population and housing censuses, data integration for measuring migration, the use of statistical registers for business demography and business statistics. In addition, the agenda of the 67th plenary session of the CES, scheduled for June 2019 in Paris, France, was defined.

Participation in the CES plenary sessions is of high practical relevance for further development and improvement of the national statistical system of Belarus.
